The GT Malzoni is a Brazilian Sports car designed by Rino Malzoni and produced between 1964 and 1966, in Dobrada (SP). Initially conceived only for competitions, using chassis and DKW mechanics (represented in Brazil by Vemag) and fiberglass body, this vehicle was initially produced in two versions: one spartan, for the race tracks, and another, for walking, which would later origin of the Puma GT (also known as Puma DKW) and the Puma brand. It is estimated that approximately 35 copies have been produced.
The specimens of the stroll version and some specimens of the Spartan version were produced in fiberglass. The first models, however, were produced with metallic bodies. When its designer, Rino Malzoni, offered one of the first copies, still metallic, for testing by a specialized magazine, he was designated as DKW Vemag GT.
During the 1960s, automakers in Brazil used racing as part of their marketing strategy. DKW-Vemag had the modified Belcar for these events, which performed well despite its high weight.
From this scenario Jorge Lettry, (Vemag's competition department), Genaro "Rino" Malzoni (who had experience in own bodies using existing chassis), Anísio Campos (designer and driver), among others created a small metal sports prototype ( the following specimens were made of fiberglass) with an Italian-inspired design.
In 1964 he made his debut in competitions.
In 1965, the model wins five tests and its main competitor is Interlagos (Brazilian version of the Renault Alpine A-108) produced by Willys. Due to the great success, it was decided to manufacture it in series. The Lumimari Automobile Society was created, with a factory in São Paulo (SP).
In 1966, the Automobile Society Lumimari, at the suggestion of Jorge Lettry, changes its name to Puma Veículos e Motores and the GT Malzoni is relaunched as Puma GT.
