Volvo 122 s - With a huge curriculum

The Volvo 122S was a mid-size car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars from 1956 to 1970 and introduced in the United States as the 122S at the 1959 New York International Auto Show.

Amazon shared the wheelbase, high stance and high H-seat of its predecessor, the PV444 / 544, and was offered in two-door sedans, four-door sedans and five-door bodies. In 1959, Volvo became the first worldwide manufacturer to supply front belts as standard equipment - supplying them on all Amazon models, including export models - and later becoming the first car with three-seater belts. points as standard equipment.

When it was introduced, the car was called Amason (with an 's'), from the fierce warriors of Greek mythology, the Amazons.

German motorcycle manufacturer Kreidler had already registered the name and the two companies agreed that Volvo could only use the name in the country (that is, within Sweden), modifying the spelling for Amazon. Subsequently, Volvo began its three-digit nomenclature and the line became known as the 120 Series.

Amazon was originally manufactured at the Volvo Lundby plant in Gothenburg and later at the Torslandaverken plant, which started operating in 1964. At the end of production, 234,653 four-door models, 359,917 two-door models and 73,220 wagons had been produced, of which 60% of which were exported for a total of 667,791 vehicles.
