Mercedes-Benz has a long and proud tradition and reputation that was built by years of dominance on the track, superior build quality and undeniable beauty. The cars they built are legendary and well known. Its tradition continued with the 220S and 300 model range. The 220S was offered in a sedan, coupe and convertible configuration. They had leather seats and exotic materials used throughout. The wooden trim was commonly mahogany.
Under the hood, there was a 2195 cc inline six-cylinder engine with a single camshaft in the head, two double Solex carburetors and a 7.6: 1 compression ratio. 125 SAE power was sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic gearbox. The braking power was provided by a servo-assisted battery.
The 220S was produced in limited numbers, starting in the mid-1950s and continuing until October 1959. A total of 3,429 copies were produced, 2178 of which were convertible.
